AUWCL Offers Online Courses Aimed at New Graduates and Mid-Career Professionals

The Office of Online Education at American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL) offers online programs geared towards new graduates and mid-career professionals. With select courses available to students worldwide, online learners can participate in certificate and for-credit programs at Washington College of Law in a variety of topics, all while maintaining their day-to-day responsibilities. This year, WCL welcomed online participants from across the U.S. and around the world, including Honduras, Italy, Oman, Spain, Russia, and Turkey, among others.

IBM Watson shakes up 7 industries. Are legal and education on the list?

Since IBM opened IBM Watson to the world last year, it has been building a developer and entrepreneur community around the development platform. The community now consists of more than 280 commercial partners, as well as tens of thousands of developers, students, entrepreneurs and other enthusiasts that are generating up to 3 billion monthly API requests on Watson.

Surprise! Legal and education didn’t make the list. Maybe it isn’t much of a surprise. Both “industries” aren’t really driven by data crunching but much more by human interaction and both have been rather impervious to automation.

Overstock Will Issue a Private Bond Powered by Bitcoin Tech | WIRED

OVERSTOCK.COM IS PREPARING to offer a $25 million private bond using the blockchain, the distributed online ledger that underpins the bitcoin digital currency.

Earlier this week, the online retailer circulated a document among hedge funds, private equity groups, and other potential Wall Street investors indicating it was offering such a bond. Company CEO Patrick Byrne, the circular says, “believes that cryptotechnology can do for the capital market what the internet has done for consumers”—a reference to the type of technology that drives bitcoin.
